"95 Years and Counting: A Celebration of Fairmont State Theatre" Set for Nov. 13-14

Oct 29, 2015

As the birthplace of the International Thespian Society and Alpha Psi Omega, the collegiate honorary drama fraternity, Fairmont State University has a long and storied history of providing quality theatre for North Central West Virginia. As part of FSU’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts presents “95 Years and Counting: A Celebration of Fairmont State Theatre” at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 13 and 14, in Wallman Hall Theatre.

A reception will be held before each performance at 6:30 p.m. in the Tower Room in Wallman Hall. Drinks and hors d’oeuvres will be served. The gala performances, beginning at 8 p.m. each evening, will feature scenes and musical numbers selected from productions that are part of the 95-year history of theatre at Fairmont State, including numbers from “Guys and Dolls,” “The Sound of Music” and “Annie.” Tickets for “95 Years and Counting,” which includes admission to the reception, are $20 and may be purchased by calling the Box Office at (304) 367-4240. Funds raised from the sale of tickets will be used for student scholarships and upgrades to the Wallman Hall stage.

“We have been looking through the Masquers archives in preparation for ‘95 Years and Counting.’ Seeing photos of the summer theatre tent, the old auditorium in Hardway Hall and the early years of Wallman Hall is truly exciting. It reminds us of what a truly special place this is,” says Dr. Francene Kirk, Abelina Suarez Professor of Communication and Theatre. “Some of our alumni and Town & Gown players are set to perform. One of the highlights will be Geri Vilar. Geri has been acting and singing with Town & Gown since 1968. It promises to be a great evening.”
