"Comic Configurations" Exhibit Opens Sept. 21

Sep 09, 2015

The Visual Arts Department at Fairmont State University will host an exhibition of the work of printmaker Joseph Lupo in September.

The exhibition “Comic Configurations” runs from Monday, Sept. 21, to Friday, Oct. 16, in the James David Brooks Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall. Lupo will present an artist lecture at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30, in the FSU Ruth Ann Musick Library Multi-media Room A lecture hall with a Brooks Gallery reception to follow. The exhibition coincides with the FSU Common BookPersepolis” and the First Year Experience “Passport” activities.

Joseph Lupo’s work has been exhibited internationally, most recently traveling to Santiago, Chile, with Artists Image Resource to collaborate with Chilean printmakers. Lupo has had a lifelong interest in comics and the graphic novel.

“In 2006 I began to address how artists and writers communicate through comics. Comics rely on both text and graphic images to make a storyline move along. By eliminating certain aspects of both characteristics I began to find different methods of deconstructing the entire book,” Lupo said.

The exhibition will be open and on display from Monday, Sept. 21, through Friday, Oct. 16, Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the James David Brooks Gallery, Wallman Hall. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information on Lupo and his work, visit josephlupo.com or the Fairmont State University Visual Arts Facebook page.
