PDS Partnership Honors Two Marion County Teachers

The Fairmont State University Professional Development School Partnership has presented two Marion County public school teachers with Excellence in Teaching Awards.

“This award is given to two teachers who embody the highest standards of the teaching profession and demonstrate a positive impact on the lives of students, advancement of the teaching profession and a commitment to excellence. The PDS Partnership at Fairmont State is pleased to award these two exemplary teachers with this honor,” said Barbara Owens, Director of Clinical Experiences and the PDS Partnership for the FSU School of Education, Health and Human Performance.

Receiving this year’s Excellence in Teaching Awards are Chrissy Jones of West Fairmont Middle School and Joyce Evans of Jayenne Elementary School. Both recipients will receive a $500 honorarium, a $500 honorarium for their school and a classroom plaque.

Applicants for the award could nominate themselves or could be nominated by someone else. To be eligible for the award, teachers had to be full-time employees of a school participating in the FSU PDS Partnership and have completed three or more years of teaching. The criteria for the award include: teachers who are committed to working with FSU teacher candidates and student teachers; teachers who are creative and innovative in fields such as multimedia, interdisciplinary studies, interactivity; teachers who are supportive of the visions and goals of the PDS Partnership; and teachers who share professional opportunities. All applications are reviewed by an independent evaluation committee.

“Outstanding teaching is an integral part of FSU’s Teacher Education mission and is deserving of significant recognition. These awards are both personal monetary acknowledgement as well as school recognition. These public school educators are true examples of what we are striving to mold in our future educators,” said Dr. Carolyn Crislip-Tacy, Dean of the School of Education, Health and Human Performance.

The Fairmont State Professional Development School (PDS) Partnership has expanded from three schools to include 40 schools located in six counties. Participating schools are located in Harrison, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, Taylor and Wetzel counties.
