Michael Loop Sculpture Exhibit on Display at FSU

The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts presents the work of artist Michael Loop in his solo exhibition, “Chopped, Dropped and Rolled Back” in the J.D. Brooks Gallery on the fourth floor of  Wallman Hall and the outdoor Sculpture Park on campus.

“Chopped, Dropped and Rolled Back” is on display from Aug. 17 through Sept. 18. An exhibition opening and artist lecture is planned for noon Thursday, Sept. 17, in the J.D. Brooks Gallery. 

Loop lives and works in Morgantown and has been a member of the area art community for years. After receiving his B.F.A. from West Virginia University in 1998, he extensively travelled around the United States assisting artists, including Albert Paley, Christopher Weed, Paul Knoblauch, Sean Calyer, Shoji Satake and Jason Lee, honing a multi-faceted understanding of material and process. After a 12-year sabbatical from academia, Loop returned to WVU, under the guidance of a fresh faculty to receive his M.F.A. with a concentration in sculpture in 2013. The decision to return to academia was a conscious one to allow an investigation into his personal aesthetic and process.

As Loop’s work grows in sophistication, his exhibition record accelerates as well. To date, he has shown extensively around the country, including exhibitions in New York, Pennsylvania, Florida, Ohio and West Virginia.

Currently Loop serves as the Chief Preparator for the West Virginia Art Museum at WVU under the curatorial direction of Robert Bridges. In addition to his position at the museum, he teaches as an adjunct lecturer at WVU and has previously worked at Fairmont State University teaching Foundation art classes in drawing, 2D and 3D design.
