Auditions Planned for Town & Gown Theatre Production of "The Boy Friend"

Aug 16, 2015

The Fairmont State University Department of Theatre and Communication and Town and Gown Theatre are hosting auditions for the musical comedy, “The Boy Friend,” on Sept. 1 and 3.

Performance dates will be Oct. 16, 17, 22, 23 and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. in Wallman Hall Theatre. Auditions will take place from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 1 and 3 in Wallman Hall Theatre. The production will be directed by Susan Cato-Chapman. Musical director is Joshua Stubbs.

All roles are open. Roles include the following: Polly Browne, a young lady; four young ladies at Madame Dubonnet’s School; Madame Dubonnet, the headmistress; Hortense, a maid; Bobby Van Husen, a rich, good-looking American; Percival Browne, Polly’s father; Tony, a messenger; Lord Brockhurst, a frisky old gentleman; Lady Brockhust, his stuffy wife; three young men; waiter; and chorus.

Actors able to play character roles are needed. Those who audition should prepare a monologue (preferably memorized) of no longer than one minute in length. They will also be asked to learn a portion of a male or female song, at the musical director’s discretion. If possible, those who audition should bring a headshot and/or resume. A possible dance call-back will be held Sept. 2 and 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Rehearsals begin Sept. 7 and will be held Mondays through Fridays from 7 to 10 p.m.

To audition, e-mail scato@fairmontstate.edu with name, contact information and preferred time slot (from 6 to 9 p.m.). Audition slots will be assigned by e-mail.

This throw-back production is part of Fairmont State’s Sesquicentennial Celebration. The jazz age lives on in this light, romantic spoof of a 1920s musical comedy. FSU has historic roots in theatre as the site of the creation of Alpha Psi Omega, Delta Psi Omega and the International Thespian Society.
