School of Business ACBSP Accreditation Reaffirmed

Jul 06, 2015

The Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs Baccalaureate/Graduate Degree Board of Commissioners (ACBSP) has reaffirmed accreditation of the undergraduate and graduate business programs at Fairmont State University.

“There is real value in students choosing an ACBSP accredited Business School like ours at Fairmont State. ACBSP’s student-centered teaching and learning approach, which is measured and analyzed for quality, ensures that our students gain the right skills for their educational investment. Our students are better prepared to compete for the best careers,” said Dr. Richard Harvey, Dean of the FSU School of Business.

Fairmont State University was first accredited by ACBSP in 2005. The University is required to go through the reaffirmation process every 10 years to maintain ACBSP accreditation.

Established in 1988, ACBSP is the only organization offering specialized business accreditation for all degree levels, from associate to baccalaureate to doctoral degree programs. ACBSP accreditation certifies that the teaching and learning processes within the business programs offered through the School of Business at Fairmont State University meet the rigorous educational standards established by ACBSP.

“Fairmont State University has shown their commitment to teaching excellence and to the process of quality improvement by participating in the accreditation process,” said Dr. Steve Parscale, ACBSP Chief Accreditation Officer, who presented the Certificates of Reaffirmation of Accreditation at ACBSP Conference 2015 in Philadelphia on June 14.

“This reaffirmation of accreditation is evidence that Fairmont State University is committed to providing the highest quality business education for their students for the next 10 years, just as they have done for the last 10 years,” Parscale said.

ACBSP’s mission is to promote continuous improvement and recognize excellence in the accreditation of business education programs around the world. ACBSP, www.acbsp.org, is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) as a specialized accreditation agency for business education. ACBSP currently has 1,233 member campuses, 195 of which are located outside of the U.S. Of those campuses, 923 have achieved accreditation and more than 210 are in candidacy for accreditation. Individual members on these campuses now exceed 11,000.

Fairmont State University, with a 120-acre main campus in Fairmont, is part of the state’s growing high technology corridor. The main campus has been expanded with new construction including an Engineering Technology Building, student center, residence hall, parking garage, improved library facility and significant ADA accessibility improvements. With an enrollment of about 4,200, FSU offers six associate degrees, more than 80 baccalaureate degrees and graduate programs in architecture, business, criminal justice and education.
