Benefit Dinner Recital for Fairmont State Music Department's "Messiah"

Mar 27, 2015

The Fairmont State University Department of Music will present a benefit dinner recital at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Noteworthy Sweets.

“Attendees will dine on a sumptuous feast while being entertained by Fairmont State’s top musicians. This elegant benefit will help support an elaborate production of Handel’s ‘Messiah’ this December, part of the Sesquicentennial celebration of Fairmont State University,” said Dr. Sam Spears, Fairmont State Director of Choirs.

Featured on the program will be Fairmont State’s Chamber Choir, performing Broadway standards along with Renaissance and contemporary masterpieces.

“We’re very excited to be performing Handel’s ‘Messiah’ this December,” Spears said. “It will be a grand concert event that will combine student and community singers with a full orchestra. This will be our gift to the entire Fairmont community in celebration of Fairmont State’s Sesquicentennial anniversary. We’re hoping the community will help us make this special event possible as an undertaking like this requires significant financial resources.”

The Fairmont State Chamber Choir is performing the benefit recital shortly after returning from their triumphant performance in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

“This is Fairmont’s chance to support world-class music right here in our own community,” Spears said.

Noteworthy Sweets, located at 91 Fairmont Avenue, is locally renowned for their gourmet meals and luxurious desserts. A raffle basket with exclusive prizes will be part of the evening’s entertainment. Also on the program will be a showcase of top Fairmont State music talent. The entire evening will support the upcoming “Messiah” performance and additional music performance and education opportunities at Fairmont State.

Tickets for the benefit recital dinner are $50 each and seating is limited. Tickets may be purchased by April 1 through the Fairmont State Box Office at (304) 367-4240.  Formal dress for the benefit is recommended.

Those who cannot attend but wish to make a donation to help support the “Messiah” performance and other Department of Music events may contact the Fairmont State Foundation at (304) 534-8786 and make a designated pledge. More information about the Fairmont State Department of Music and the School of Fine Arts can be found at www.fairmontstate.edu/schooloffinearts.
