Auditions Planned for FSU Spring Productions

Dec 01, 2014

Fairmont State University’s Masquers and Town and Gown Theatre is scheduling auditions for “I Hate Hamlet” and “Far Away.”

Auditions will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 8 and 9, in the Wallman Hall Theatre on the Fairmont State campus. The productions will be performed in late February and mid-April 2015.

“I Hate Hamlet” is a silly, fast-paced, affectionately amusing play about the theatre. Television star Andrew Rally is visited by the ghost of Lionel Barrymore after he is cast in a stage production of “Hamlet.” There are roles available for three women and three men. John O’Connor will direct.

“Far Away” is a futuristic vision of a world where the promise of violence broods and nothing is to be trusted. It tells the story of a young girl seeking refuge from a global conflict in which even the animals are on one side or another. There are roles available for two women, one man, one 9-to-12-year-old girl and an ensemble of eight to 10 women and men. Susan Cato will direct.

Auditioners should be prepared to present two contrasting monologues (preferably memorized) from modern or contemporary plays.

For more information and to request a perusal script, e-mail John O’Connor at John.OConnor@fairmontstate.edu or Susan Cato at Susan.Cato@fairmontstate.edu.
