School of Fine Arts Presents Students with Academic Awards
The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts recognized students for their scholarship at the Academic Awards Ceremony at the end of the spring 2014 semester.
FSU President Maria Rose; Dr. Constance Edwards, Interim Dean of the School of Fine Arts; and Jennifer Wade of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. greeted the students. Music awards were presented by Dr. Anne Patterson, Coordinator of the Department of Music; communication and theatre awards were presented by Dr. John O’Connor, Coordinator of the Department of Communication and Theatre Arts; visual art awards were presented by Jeff Greenham, Coordinator of the Department of Art.
The following students received music scholarships: Paige Bowser, Chyna Brown, Michael Carpenter, Amy Farson, Andre Grindle, Jonathan Henry, Makenzie Hill, Kayla Keefover, Benjamin Male, Dylan Nicholas, Briana Pudsell, Brian Reed, Aaron Sine, Elizabeth Tennant, Candace Walker and Cody Young. Scholarships are generously supported by the following funds: William and Linda Ullom Endowed Scholarship, Richard and Virginia Wellock Endowed Scholarship, Blanche Kinney Fine Arts Endowed Scholarship, Fairmont Concert Association and the William White Scholarship.
The following students received music awards: Jonathan Henry, Outstanding Freshman; Michael Carpenter, Outstanding Sophomore and Music Theory Achievement Award; Kayla Keefover, Outstanding Junior; Rachel McIntire, Outstanding Senior; Brianna Pudsell and Rayme Pullen, Excellence in Performance.
The following students received awards in communication and theatre arts: Marianne Jenkins, Excellence in Communication and Leadership in Debate; Tyler Kovar, Outstanding Service to the Theatre Program; Beth Mills, Excellence in Education and Oral Communication and Exemplary Theatre Artist; Ann Marie Witkowski, Leadership in Speech Events; Lakyn Arrick, Rennes Carbaugh, Kurtis Dennison, Lillian Gaylord, Suzie Hall and Tyler Kovar, Exemplary Theatre Artists.
The following funds generously support scholarships in communication and theatre arts: Neely Freshman Communication Arts Scholarship, BJ O’Dell Sherman Endowed Scholarship, Marion County Little Theatre Endowed Scholarship, Blanche Kinney Fine Arts Endowed Scholarship, William White Scholarship, Matthew M. and Alberta R. Neely Communication Arts Endowed Scholarship and Debate Scholarships.
The following students received scholarships in visual art: Erin McKown, Tiffany Richards, Kylie Ford, Chris Schultz, Allison Gay, Gabrielle Cooper, Hannah Lenhart, Loraine Smith, Amanda Long, Ashley Yoho, Lila Rocovich and Danial Collins. Scholarships in visual art are supported by the following funds: James Brooks Scholarship, Bruce Betts Scholarship, Blanche Kinney Fine Arts Endowed Scholarship and the William White Scholarship.
These students won awards as part of the Visual Art Juried Exhibition: Elizabeth Sorensen, Award of Excellence in 2D/3D and President’s Choice Award; Hannah Lenhart, Award of Excellence in Ceramics; Scarlett Mowery, Award of Excellence in Printmaking; Nicole Alexander, Award of Excellence in Sculpture; and Chris Schultz, Best of Show.
Visual Art Alumni Awards were presented to Miles Holbert, owner of Mountain Creative in Fairmont, and to Liz Urse, art teacher at East Dale Elementary School. Holbert earned B.A. and M.A.T. degrees, and Urse earned B.A. degrees in Art Education and Family & Consumer Sciences.
