School of Business Recognizes Students for Academic Achievement

The Fairmont State University School of Business honored students for their academic achievement with scholarships and awards at the end of the spring 2014 semester.

Jordan Alonso of Fairmont received the WesBanco Business Graduate Degree Endowed Scholarship. The daughter of Tad Alonso and Kim Rogers of Fairmont, she is a 2009 graduate of East Fairmont High School. She graduated from Fairmont State in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and is currently pursuing an MBA degree. She is employed at Targa Development, Inc., and is the children’s ministry coordinator at LIFE United Methodist Church in Fairmont. Her volunteer activities include West Virginia Special Olympics events.

Ryan Calhoun of Davisville received the Outstanding Senior in Accounting Award and the Anthony J. and Josephine Pitrolo Endowed Scholarship. A 2011 graduate of Parkersburg High School, he is the son of David and Mary Lou Calhoun. A Business Management major with emphases in Accounting and Finance, he is a member of the School of Business Student Leadership Board and the Honors Program and secretary for the Student Accountant Society. He is employed by the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and is an active member of Edgelawn United Methodist Church in Parkersburg.

Alex Campbell of Bothell, Wash., received the Donald L. Hoylman Impact Scholarship. Campbell was homeschooled and earned his degree in 2010. He is the son of Robert and Grace Campbell of Bothell, Wash. He attended Emmaus Bible College in Iowa for one year and earned a Bible certificate. An Accounting major, he is a member of Campus Light, participates with Active Minds, is a peer mentor and a past recipient of the Donald L. Hoylman Impact Scholarship and the William White Scholarship. He is active in community service including counseling for child development programs, adjudicating speech and debate tournaments, landscaping for low income housing and Make Marion County Shine.

Robert Cole of Masontown received the Outstanding Senior in Information Systems Award. A 2000 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, he is the son of the late Harry Robert Cole and Beth Ann Cole of Grafton. He was a recipient of the Summer Undergraduate Research Experience fellowship and a member of Delta Mu Delta, the international honor society for Business Administration. He is employed by Gabriel Brothers, Inc. in IT support.

Bradley Cox received the Mary B. and Edgar N. Jaynes Endowed Scholarship. A 2012 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, he is the son of Richard and Katrina Cox of Mount Hope. An Accounting/Finance major, he is a member of the Honors Program, Student Government and a Resident Assistant.

Brodie Currence of Sutton received the Mary B. and Edgar N. Jaynes Endowed Scholarship. A 2013 graduate of Braxton County High School, he is the son of Craig and Cheryl Currence of Sutton. An Information Systems Management major, he is an intern for the West Virginia Department of Technology. He helps to coach his high school baseball team.

Philip Dent of Parsons received the Emily Leaf Nichols Alumni Scholarship. A 2011 graduate of Midland Trail High School in Hico, he is the son of Rev. Philip Royce Dent and Tracey Lynn Dent of Parsons. A Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing, he is a 2013 recipient of the Louis Schoolnic Endowed Scholarship and a member of the Kappa Omicron Chapter of Delta Mu Delta, the international honor society for Business Administration. He recently participated as a student representative on a search committee to review applications for a new instructor of Business Administration. He also has participated in a number of intramural sports, including volleyball and softball. He is active in his home church and an avid guitarist.

Derek Efaw received the Dream, Succeed & Lead Award. A 2007 graduate of Canon McMillian High School in Canonsburg, Pa., he is the son of Timothy Efaw and Cynthia Eddy. He and his wife Crystal reside in Clarksburg with their children, Hialey, Katie and Alex. An Accounting major, he is a member of Delta Mu Delta, international society for Business Administration, and is treasurer of the Student Accounting Society.

Evan Ferrell received the Stanley and Mary Beafore Scholarship and the Frank and Florene Sansalone Scholarship. He is a 2011 graduate of Robert C. Byrd High School and is majoring in General Business. The son of Kevin and Beth Ferrell of Clarksburg, he hopes to open his own photography studio and is currently a freelance photographer.

Devin Freeman of Fairmont received the Anthony J. and Josephine Pitrolo Endowed Scholarship. A 2013 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, he is the son of Tracey Freeman of Fairmont. A Business Management and Marketing major, he is a member of Chi Alpha and Economics Group Leader. He is active in his church.

Breanna Hafer of Fairmont received the WesBanco Bank Fairmont, Inc. Endowed Scholarship. A 2012 graduate of Ritchie County High School, she is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Management. She is a member of the Honors Program, a PROMISE Scholar and a member of the School of Business Student Leadership Board. She is employed by Muriale’s Italian Restaurant.

Nastausha Hefner of Buckhannon received the Louis Schoolnic Endowed Scholarship. A 2008 graduate of Lewis County High School, she is the daughter of Harley Alan Hefner and Ann Bronwyn Warner of Weston. A Business Administration major, she is also a member of Delta Mu Delta, the international honor society for Business Administration. She holds an A.A.S. in Office Management and Technology from Pierpont Community & Technology College, graduating with honors from Phi Theta Kappa in 2010. She participates in Relay for Life and fundraisers to help employees and their families in time of need at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, where she is employed.

Drew Hetzel received the Conley CPS Group Accounting Excellence Award. He is a 2013 graduate of Washington High School in Charles Town and is majoring in Accounting. The son of Donald Brent Hetzel II of Martinsburg, he is a member of the Fighting Falcons Baseball Team and is active in his church in Charles Town.

Shelley Idleman received the Louis Schoolnic Endowed Scholarship. She and her husband John reside in Morgantown with their children, Briana and Chris. A 1987 graduate of Hampshire High School, she is the daughter of Gary and Lois Wagoner of Romney. She is a Business Management major with a concentration in Management and a member of Delta Mu Delta, the international Business Management society. She is active in her church, Pierpont Church of the Nazarene in Morgantown and is treasurer and chairman of the Constitution Week Committee of the Woodburn Chapter National Daughters of the American Revolution. She has worked in the field of ophthalmology for 23 years and has obtained certifications as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician and Registered Ophthalmic Ultrasound Biometrist.

Seunghe Kim received the John and Nancy Raley School of Business Scholarship. A 2011 graduate of Parkway Christian School in Sterling Heights, Mich., she is a native of Seoul, Republic of Korea. The Information Systems Management major was a past recipient of the William White International Scholarship; secretary and member of Delta Mu Delta, the international Business Management society; a peer mentor for the Intro to Computing class in 2014; and president of the Information Systems Student Organization. She completed an internship at Microsoft Fargo, N.D., working for the Accounting Services Department.

Ashley Lowe of Clarksburg received the Glenn A. Harman Accounting Excellence Scholarship and the George E. Lambert Family Endowed Fund for Education. A 2011 graduate of Liberty High School, she is the daughter of Phillip D. and Cindy L. Cox of Clarksburg. Majoring in Accounting and Finance, she is vice president of the Honors Program. She is also a peer mentor for the School of Business and volunteers with Campus Visitation Day and freshman Honors scheduling for Orientation. This summer she is a member of the FSU Orientation Team.

Justine Maxey of Bridgeport received the Louis Schoolnic Endowed Scholarship. A 2012 graduate of Bridgeport High School, she is the daughter of James and Bridget Maxey. An Accounting and Finance major, she is a member of the Student Accounting Society and Delta Mu Delta, the international honor society for Business Administration. She is a financial reporting intern at PDC Energy.

Ryan Moore of Fairmont received the Outstanding Senior in Business Administration Award. A 2010 graduate of North Marion High School, he is the son of Mark Moore of Fairmont and Brenda Gillespie of Monongah. A Marketing major, he was a member of the Honors College and a PROMISE Scholarship Recipient. He is a 2014 graduate of the FSU School of Business. He is employed by Pikewood National Golf Club in Morgantown. He has been accepted into the MBA program at West Virginia University.

Randy “Mitch” Moore of Hundred received the Donald L. Hoylman Impact Scholarship. A 2012 graduate of Hundred High School, he is the son of Randy and Janet Moore of Hundred. An Accounting and Business Administration major with an emphasis in Finance, Moore is Student Government president and a member of the Student Accountant Society. He has worked for the Office of Admissions and Recruitment on campus and is an intern at Tetrick & Bartlett, PLLC, based out of Clarksburg.

Jordan Riffle of Grafton received the Dustin Burdoff Scholarship. A 2011 graduate of Grafton High School, he is the son of Jimmie and Amy Riffle of Grafton. A Marketing major, he is a member of the Honors Program and a PROMISE Scholarship recipient. He is employed part-time at the Whitehall Shop N Save and had an internship with West Virginia Public Radio’s Mountain Stage in Charleston.

Richard Spencer III received the LeDonne Family Accounting Scholarship. The son of Annette Wolfe of Fairmont, he is a 2013 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School. The Accounting major is a member of the Honors Program.

Kaitlyn Witsaman of Medina, Ohio, received the Anthony J. and Josephine Pitrolo Endowed Scholarship. A 2012 graduate of Medina High School, she is the daughter of Glen and Brenda Witsaman of Medina, Ohio. At Fairmont State, she is a Marketing major, captain of the Fighting Falcons Volleyball Team and a member of the Student Athletic Advisory Committee.

Matthew Yost received the Woodrow A. Potesta Scholarship of Accounting. The Accounting major is the son of Mike and Sally Yost of Fairmont and is a 2010 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School.
