Faculty Member One of Four Finalists in IBM Challenge
A Fairmont State University School of Business faculty member was a finalist in a national challenge.
Dr. Frank Lee, Associate Professor of Information Systems Management, attended the IBM Information On Demand conference in November in Las Vegas. According to IBM’s web site, the conference brought together experts and peers to explore how big data and analytics are changing the way organizations do business. During the show, IBM unveiled new products and services while highlighting new client success stories.
During the conference, finalists were chosen each day to participate in the IBM Win Big Challenge Championship Round, which was held during the Technology Futures Luncheon on Nov. 7. Conference attendees competed at the conference site each day, and a live leader board displayed real-time standings throughout the conference. A total of four daily winners were selected, including FSU’s Lee. The four finalists competed in the Championship Round on stage in front of more than 8,000 people and viewers on a web simulcast.
Although Lee didn’t win the grand prize of a 13-inch MacBook Pro with a retina display, he said he enjoyed the experience and learned valuable information at the conference to pass along to colleagues and students at FSU.
