Week of Events Planned for Homecoming 2013

With the theme “Almost Heaven: A Salute to West Virginia,” Homecoming 2013 for Fairmont State University through Saturday, Oct. 12, is a week packed with alumni, athletics, student and community events. For more information on Homecoming activities, click here.
 

Monday, Oct. 7 - Friday, Oct. 11

Erickson Alumni Center Open House

  • 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Erickson Alumni Center, 1300 Locust Ave.
  • Meet with friends, look through yearbooks and remember your student days.
  • Light refreshments available.

     

Thursday, Oct. 10

FSU and Pierpont Community & Technical College Homecoming Parade

  • 4-6 p.m. Zany Umbrella Circus, storefront shopping and dining, live music and a jump house for the kids on Adams Street in Downtown Fairmont in partnership with Main Street Fairmont.
  • Line up at 5:15 p.m.; parade begins at 6 p.m.
  • The parade route is Fairmont Avenue to Adams Street.
  • Float judging takes place in front of the Marion County Courthouse.
  • Parade Marshal is Dr. Judy P. Byers, Executive Director of the Frank and Jane Gabor West Virginia Folklife Center.
     

Pep Rally

  • The traditional Pep Rally will immediately follow the Homecoming Parade on Adams Street.
  • Join FSU and Pierpont student organizations as they show their school spirit in the annual Spirit Stick Competition. Vote for the spirit cheer winner by donating a non-perishable food item or a dollar during the competition.
  • Members of the Fighting Falcons football team and coaches will also be on hand in front of the Courthouse to get everyone pumped up for the game!

 

Friday, Oct. 11

Alumni Award Winner Roundtable

  • 9 to 10 a.m.
  • Multimedia Room B, Ruth Ann Musick Library
  • Join moderator Dr. Robert Mild in a Q & A session with our alumni award winners. Winners include: Outstanding Young Alumni--Laura (Bennett) Meadows '07 and Chris Weaver '99; Outstanding Alumni--Tina Shaw '82 and Dr. G.H "Budd" Sapp '80; and Alumni of Achievement-- Lydia (Layman) McCue '67 and Curtis Fleming '90.

     

Class of 1963 Reunion and Emeritus Induction Luncheon

  • 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Falcon Center Third Floor Conference Room
  • Tickets: Advance – $20, at the door – $25
  • No charge for Class of 1963 inductees
  • Sponsored by WesBanco Bank, Inc.
  • Honor the golden anniversary of our 1963 graduates with their induction into the Emeritus Club. All graduates of the Class of 1963 will share a few fond Fairmont State memories.
     

Tour of Fairmont with the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Marion County

  • 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Free admission.
  • Departs from Erickson Alumni Center, 1300 Locust Ave.
  • Join the Marion County Convention and Visitors Bureau for a tour of Fairmont! There will be plenty of stops on this tour of town that will jog your memory and take you back to your college days. (All stops along the tour will be handicapped accessible.)
     

Donor Centered Planned Giving Seminar

  • 4 p.m.
  • Erickson Alumni Center, 1300 Locust Ave.
  • Wine and cheese reception.
  • Join representatives from the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. as they expertly guide you through the planned giving process.
     

Hall of Fame Banquet

  • 5 p.m. – Social – Sponsored by Gary K. and Barbara D. Bennett
  • 6 p.m. – Dinner – Sponsored by Omni Associates–Architects
  • Falcon Center Gym 1
  • Tickets: $40
  • Join the Fairmont State Athletic Association, Inc. in welcoming the Fairmont State Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2013. Inductees include Ted Echols ‘73 (baseball and basketball); Terry Deremer ’70 (baseball); Brian Tristani ’89 (basketball); Martin “Sonny” Bartic ‘68 (football); Todd Anderson ’02 (football); Kara Morris Adkins ’00 (basketball); Kristy Renfro ’00 (swimming).
     

80s Decade Reunion/Cocktail Reception

  • 8:30 p.m.
  • Tickets: $10
  • Erickson Alumni Center, 1300 Locust Ave.
  • Join other Fairmont State alumni who graduated from 1979-1991 for a cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception.
     

FSU and Pierpont Student Homecoming Dance

  • 9 p.m. to midnight; wrist banding begins at 8:30 p.m.
  • Colebank Hall Gym
  • Sponsored by the Office of Student Activities.
  • Admission is free but open only to FSU and Pierpont students with current student ID.
  • Semi-formal attire required.
  • Special guests: The Chris Weaver Band. Billboard Magazine’s Chuck Dauphin calls this band one of the “Top 10 Artists to Watch for in 2013…A Star in the Making.” For more information, visit www.chrisweaverband.com.
  • Food, drinks and a final recap of the Homecoming King and Queen candidates.

 

Saturday, October 12

Alumni Awards Brunch

  • 10:30 a.m.
  • Falcon Center Third Floor Conference Room
  • Tickets: Advance – $20, at the door – $25
  • Sponsored by Thrasher
  • Join the Fairmont State Alumni Association as we celebrate these incredible alumni: Outstanding Young Alumni: Laura (Bennett) Meadows ‘07 and Chris Weaver ’99; Outstanding Alumni: Tina (Alvaro) Shaw ‘82 and Dr. G.H “Budd” Sapp ’80; Alumni of Achievement: Lydia (Layman) McCue ‘67 and Curtis Fleming ‘90.
     

Fairmont State Alumni Association Pre-game Tailgate

  • 12:30 p.m.
  • Free admission to the tailgate.
  • Gather with Fairmont State alumni and friends at the tailgate trailer in the White Lot before the game!
     

Fairmont State vs. West Liberty

  • 2 p.m. kickoff.
  • Duvall-Rosier Field
  • Tickets available for purchase at gate.
  • Head to Duvall-Rosier Field to check out the 2013 Fighting Falcons! The Fairmont State Alumni Association will have plenty of fun and food available during the game.
  • The Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned during halftime. Parade float winners also will be announced.
