FSU Alumni Exhibition on Display in Wallman Hall

An art exhibition on display through Friday, Oct. 4, at Fairmont State University highlights the work of FSU alumni.

The Department of Art will host the FSU Alumni Exhibition in the James David Brooks Gallery, located on the fourth floor of Wallman Hall. A public reception is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 10, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Gallery hours are Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

The exhibit includes Stacey Elder, Trevor Oxley, M. Michael Smith, Jason Spinks and Greg Swiger, five recent Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art graduates. Each graduate continues to create a unique body of work while pursuing individual efforts. 

Elder, is a 2013 Master of Fine Arts recipient from the University of Georgia. While at UGA, she worked at the Lamar Dodd School of Art as a graduate teaching and Visual Resource Library assistant. Her work has been shown at the Georgia Museum of Art and numerous juried exhibitions in Athens, Ga. 

Since his 2010 graduation from FSU, Oxley has been working as a freelance Graphic Designer and also is the curator of the Loft Gallery at Chops and Hops restaurant in Watkinsville, Ga. 

M. Michael Smith is a 2012 Master of Fine Arts graduate of the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning in Drawing/Photography. He currently is a visual artist/educator who lives and works in Cincinnati, Ohio.

After receiving his Bachelor of Arts in Graphics/Fine Arts from FSU, Spinks continued his education and is working toward a degree in Forestry with a minor in Environmental Science at Glenville State College in Glenville. He lives in Tioga. 

Swiger, an artist, poet and educator, received a 2013 Master of Fine Arts from the University of Cincinnati College of Design, Architecture, Art and Planning in Studio Art. He currently works at The Carnegie, the largest multidisciplinary arts center in northern Kentucky.  His work has been shown at the Drift Studio, Mt. Horeb, Wis., the Covington Artist’s Enterprise, in Covington, Ky., and the Sycamore Gallery, Cincinnati, Ohio, where he lives and works.
