Auditions Scheduled for "The Original and True Rocket Boys"

Sep 06, 2013

Actors, singers and dancers are sought for roles in the upcoming Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts production of “The Original and True Rocket Boys.”

Directed by Troy Snyder and R.J. Nestor, performances for “The Original and True Rocket Boys” are scheduled for Nov. 15, 16, 17, 20, 21, 22 and 23. Other performances will be offered for public school students.

About 30 roles are available for those ages 16 and older. All auditions will take place Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 11 and 12, in Room 314 of Wallman Hall. Acting and singing auditions are planned from 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 11 and 7:30 to 10 p.m. Sept. 12. Dance auditions are planned for 6 to 7 p.m. Sept. 12. To schedule an audition, call (304) 367-4203. For more information, contact Troy Snyder at troy.snyder@fairmontstate.edu.

For the dance auditions, no prior experience is necessary. Two short 1950s style combinations will be taught at the audition. Emphasis will be given to character and movement over technical skill. Those auditioning for acting roles will be given material for a cold reading or they may perform a serio-comic monologue (serious to the speaker, interpreted humorously by the audience). Those auditioning for singing roles will be asked to sing 16-24 bars of an up-tempo, modern musical theatre piece and 16-24 bars of a ballad from a modern musical theatre piece at the directors’ discretion. All those who audition should bring head shots and resumes.
