Two Football Players Earn Academic All-America Honors
Fairmont State University kicker Frank Keenan and defensive back Dewey McDonald have earned first team Capitol One Division II Academic All-America® honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today. Fairmont State was one of just three schools to have multiple first team selections.
Keenan, a senior from Byfleet, England, maintains a 4.0 G.P.A. while pursuing his master's in business administration. This season, Keenan set a school record with 40 made-point after attempts. He also hit 10 field goals for the Falcons, which was the fifth-most in a single season at Fairmont State. Keenan was named second team All-WVIAC.
McDonald, a junior from Ranson, W.Va., carries a 3.92 G.P.A. while majoring in both sport management and business management. This season, McDonald was second on the team in total tackles with 73 and second in solo stops with 55. He had one interception and defended six passes while earning second team All-WVIAC honors. For his career, McDonald has nine interceptions that he has returned for a school-record 319 yards.
“This is just a tremendous and rewarding honor for Frank and Dewey,” head coach Mike Lopez said. “We obviously have a strong emphasis on academics in our program, and this recognition reflects the hard work and effort that Dewey and Frank have put in both on the field and in the classroom. They are a perfect example of what our program strives for.”
