Student Veterans Organization and Student Government to Host Veterans Day Events
The Student Veterans Organization and Student Government of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College are hosting Veterans Day events on Friday, Nov. 11.
At 11:45 a.m. on the lawn in front of the Falcon Center on main campus, the Harrison County Junior ROTC will offer a color guard performance.
At noon, special guest speakers will give presentations in the third floor conference rooms of the Falcon Center. Dr. Heather Meit, Program Coordinator of the Louis A. Johnson Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Clarksburg, will share tips and strategies for learning how to recognize Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and will offer advice concerning what people can do if they recognize PTSD symptoms among fellow classmates, loved ones or colleagues.
FSU and Pierpont students will also serve on a Veteran Student Panel to address questions regarding their transition back to civilian life after serving their country as a combat soldier. Dr. Gregory P. Noone, Director of the National Security and Intelligence Program and Assistant Professor of Political Science and Law at FSU and Captain in the U.S. Naval Reserve, will serve as panel moderator.
“On behalf of Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, we would like to thank all of our military men and women, both on campus and in the community, for their commitment and service to our country. It is a privilege to plan events to honor those who have served and are currently serving in the armed forces. While we cannot all truly understand the sacrifices they have made, we can certainly all take time to show our appreciation,” said Laurie Johnston, Advisor to Student Government and Director of Student Activities.
Admission to these events is free and open to the public. Event details are subject to change.
