International Education Week 2011 Kicks Off on Nov. 16

Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will participate in the nationally recognized International Education Week with events intended to celebrate diversity and internationalization.

Planned for the week of Nov. 14, International Education Week is organized by the Office of International Student Services and is co-sponsored by the International Education Committee, Office of Residence Life and International Student Organization.

“The purpose of the events is to promote the international education of our campus and to further celebrate the internationalization and diversity of our community,” said Dr. Tadashi Kato, International Programming Coordinator through the Office of International Student Services and faculty advisor to the International Student Organization.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, an International Exhibition will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in Gym 1 of the Falcon Center. The event includes cultural displays from all over the world, information booths for language programs and study abroad programs and international video shows, in addition to the ballroom dance demonstration and Salsa instruction between noon and 1 p.m. on stage. Prize drawing at 2:30 p.m. will conclude the exhibition.

On Thursday, Nov. 17, there will be two events. From 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Falcon Center Conference Room 1, there will be a Global Forum moderated by Dr. Erin Hippolyte, the Study Abroad Program Coordinator. From 4 to 6 p.m. in Falcon Center Conference Room 1, there will be a Cultural Identity Workshop led by Dr. Tadashi Kato.

An International Flag Raising Ceremony is planned for noon on Friday, Nov. 18, at the flag poles at the Bryant Street entrance to main campus. International flags will be raised to honor the countries represented with FSU and Pierpont students.
