Hundreds to Participate in Campus Visitation Day on Oct. 29

Oct 13, 2011

For students of all ages deciding where to continue their education, Saturday, Oct. 29, offers an exciting opportunity to experience campus life at Fairmont State University.

“Fairmont State is friendly, vibrant, diverse, bright, colorful like the seasons, and full of rich architecture. Fairmont State is rooted in history but also remains modern. At FSU, our focus is our students and the experiences this unique environment provides for them,” said Dr. Maria Rose, FSU Interim President. “At FSU, we want every student to ‘be First.’ This is a place where teaching and learning matter, and students can create their own firsts based on their personal goals.”

Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College, which share a main campus in Fairmont, are hosting Campus Visitation Day on Saturday, Oct. 29, which is also the date of Homecoming 2011. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, with registration in the Falcon Center; the program begins at 9:30 a.m. Depending on which sessions each student opts to attend, most attendees can expect to finish with activities on the main campus by 2 p.m. The Enrollment Services Office will be open to allow students to apply or to check on the status of their admission.

At 2 p.m., guests for Campus Visitation Day will be invited to watch the Fighting Falcons football team take on Concord University at Duvall-Rosier Field. Alumni who are visiting for Homecoming are welcome to check out the Campus Visitation Day events and are welcome to bring potential students along with them.

Officials from FSU and Pierpont will give a welcome, followed by an academic fair and other informative sessions. Those who attend will have the opportunity to visit with faculty members and receive information on admissions, financial aid, veterans affairs and housing. Special sessions will focus on student life and the Honors program. Campus and residence hall tours will be offered throughout the afternoon. Lunch will be provided.

A special track within Campus Visitation Day will be offered for adult students (those 25 and older). The adult track will include information pertinent to non-traditional students, including specifics about financial aid, veterans’ information, available resources and services, as well as off-campus and online classes.

In the afternoon, participants may opt to tour the Robert C. Byrd National Aerospace Education Center at the North Central West Virginia Airport.

FSU offers more than 90 baccalaureate degrees, as well as graduate programs in business, criminal justice and education. FSU offers nationally accredited programs in high-demand fields such as teacher preparation, nursing and engineering technology. Unique programs include those in national security and intelligence, folklore studies and aviation.
