Academic Awards Celebrations Schedule Announced
To celebrate the completion of the 2010-2011 academic year, Fairmont State University will be honoring scholarship recipients and outstanding students during a variety of academic awards celebrations.
“This year the deans suggested multiple ceremonies so that each school or college could have the time to acknowledge all of their scholarship winners,” said Provost Maria Rose. “In the past, we held one large ceremony which did not allow us the time to recognize all scholarship winners. Recognizing only a few seemed to shortchange all the other winners and downplay the hard work they all had done.”
In addition to honoring scholarship recipients and outstanding students, each school will have the opportunity to induct students into academic fraternities.
“Our focus this year is to allow time to give a detailed overview of each honoree and really make the event personal,” added Associate Provost Christina Lavorata. “We also hope that more focused ceremonies will encourage scholarship donors to attend and meet the recipient of their scholarship.”
Event registration information will be announced as it becomes available. Registration fees are not anticipated for these events, and all faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend and show support for our outstanding students.
