Falcons Nip Davis & Elkins, 67-65

On Tuesday, Nov. 23, Rachel Murray notched her third of the year double-double with 16 points and 17 rebounds to lead Fairmont State past Davis & Elkins, 67-65. Kaitlin Snyder added 17 points as Fairmont State improved to 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in the WVIAC.

Jen Rasko scored 15 points on 5-of-5 shooting from three.

Page Turner tallied a game-high 26 points and Shalisa Hill added 20 points for D&E.

The Falcons made 10-of-25 threes compared to just 5-of-18 for D&E. The Senators were unable to convert at the free throw line making just 14-of-25 attempts while FSU was 7-of-10.

Davis & Elkins took advantage of sloppy ball handling by the Falcons early in the first half to jump out to an 8-2 lead. Trailing 21-10 Fairmont State went on a 15-2 run to go in front 25-23, Rasko buried a trio of threes to spark the Falcons. FSU used a 7-0 late in the half to take a 32-26 keyed by a traditional three point play from Alana George. The Falcons would take a 35-32 lead into intermission.

Fairmont State made 7-of-16 threes in the first half while D&E made 3-of-10 all three makes came from Turner who made 3-of-3 on her way to 18 first half points. The Senators outscored Fairmont State 16-4 in the paint during the first 20 minutes.

FSU opened the second half with an 11-4 run to extend their advantage to 46-36 with six points coming from Murray during the run. Davis & Elkins would tie the game with an  8-3 run to make it 60-60 with just under three minutes to play.

Rasko drained her fifth three of the night to  break the tie and give FSU the lead 63-60. After D&E went to the line and made one  of free throws Lee was fouled and made both shots to make the score 65-61.The Senators were fouled and would again make one of two to make it 65-62. After an FSU missed jumper Turner buried a three from the top of the key with just over thirty seconds to play. Snyder took the ball drove left and laid it up off the glass to give Fairmont State back the lead at 67-65 with eighteen seconds left. Turner got a good look from the free throw line at the buzzer but missed left and the Falcons came away with the 67-65 win.

Fairmont State travels to West Liberty next Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. tip.
