FSU Students Encouraged to Run for Student Government

Sep 06, 2010

Fairmont State University students have the opportunity to get more involved in campus decision-making and to make a difference for themselves, their peers and future students.

Student Government elections will be held online from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14.

Students interested in being on the ballot need to attend the Thursday, Sept. 9, Student Government meeting in Room 128 of Hardway Hall. The meeting begins at 12:30 p.m.

A nomination form and information on election rules can be found at: http://www.pierpont.edu/files/u58/fall_2010_student_government_election_packet.pdf

There are several positions open only to Fairmont State students, including Faculty Senate, three FSU House of Representatives members, one Junior Senator and two Senior Senators.

Fairmont State students are also eligible to run for Freshman Senator (three will be elected) or Sophomore Senator (one will be elected), and (if they were in Student Government last year) for Vice President/Executive Officer.

Alicia Nieman, current Student Government President, urges all students to consider being involved, either as a candidate for office, or by voting in the election.

"If you desire to be part of something bigger, to be a part of something that will get things done, then I encourage you to come out and place your name on the ballot for one of the many positions open in Student Government for the 2010-2011 school year," Nieman said.
