CONSOL Energy to Sponsor FSAA Spring Scholarship Banquet

Apr 07, 2010

Fairmont State University and CONSOL Energy have announced an agreement that will make CONSOL the official sponsor of the 2010 Fairmont State Athletic Association (FSAA) Spring Scholarship Banquet. The $10,000 sponsorship agreement is the largest in the 48-year history of the event.

"This was an opportunity for us to be a good corporate neighbor," said Jimmy Brock, CONSOL Energy Senior Vice President, Northern Appalachia - West Virginia Operations. "Athletics are critically important to our youth, and this is a nice fit with Fairmont State because the university is in our back yard. We have a lot of people involved in the company that have come to us from Fairmont State."

The FSAA Spring Scholarship Banquet sponsored by CONSOL Energy will be held Saturday, May 1, at 5:30 p.m. in the Falcon Center on the FSU main campus. Tickets are $50 for adults and $25 for students. Net proceeds from the banquet go directly to support athletic scholarships for Fairmont State student-athletes. For more information, call (304) 367-4220.

"We are so thankful for the generous support of CONSOL Energy and Jimmy Brock for the Spring Scholarship Banquet," said Shannon Kelley, Director of the FSAA. "This commitment goes a long way in helping us take Fairmont State athletics to the next level. CONSOL is a premier company located here in Marion County, and it's great to have CONSOL associated with the FSAA and supporting our student-athletes."

CONSOL Energy Inc. is the largest producer of high-Btu bituminous coal in the United States and a leader in the production of coalbed methane gas. Coal and gas collectively fuel two-thirds of all of the nation's power generation.
