Family Weekend Planned for Sept. 11-12
Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College will host Family Weekend on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11 and 12, featuring a cookout, special fun activities for families, a brunch with the presidents and a celebration after the football game.
Sponsored by the Office of Student Affairs and Student Government, the weekend is designed to help the families of students feel welcome on campus and learn more about Fairmont State and Pierpont.
"The faculty and staff are here to help students achieve their goals and, in some cases, help them determine what their goals should be," said Michael Belmear, Vice President for Student Affairs. "We want the families of our students to feel at home on our campus, and we encourage them to visit often."
Friday events include registration from 5 to 6 p.m. on the first floor of the Falcon Center, an evening barbecue with inflatable games and family-style karaoke from 5:30 to 8:30 in Falcon Center Gym 1 and a movie outside on the Falcon Center lawn at 9 p.m. On Saturday, registration begins at 9:30 a.m. A brunch with FSU President Thomas L. Krepel and Pierpont President Blair Montgomery and their spouses is planned for 10:30 a.m. in Colebank Hall Gym. Door prizes will be given away.
The Fighting Falcons take on Shepherd University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Duvall-Rosier Field. Families can enjoy Yesteryears Old Time Photos from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and root beer floats. FSU and Pierpont students have been asked to write an essay about a special family member, and the winning essay will be read at half-time of the football game. A $500 prize will be awarded to the winner. A post-game celebration will immediately follow the game at the Erickson Alumni Center. Families can mingle with coaches and players, faculty and staff.
