Events Planned in Celebration of Constitution Day Sept. 17
In 2004, President George W. Bush signed a bill that designates each Sept. 17 as Constitution Day. Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College plan to celebrate Constitution Day this year with several events.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Alpha Phi Sigma National Criminal Justice Honorary Society is sponsoring a Constitution Table on the first floor of the Falcon Center. Students can stop by and sign a copy of the Constitution and pick up a pocket-sized copy.
At 1:30 p.m. in Multi-media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library, Shirley J. Stanton, B.A., J.D., will present a talk titled "The Declaration of Independence Was the Promise; the Constitution Was the Fulfillment...222 Years of Ordered Liberty."
Stanton received B.A. degrees in political science and education from Fairmont State and the J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law. She serves on the FSU Board of Governors as secretary, is a life member of the Fairmont State Alumni Association and as president of Gamma Chi Chi Alumnae. Stanton has a long record of community involvement, having served on the Marion County Chamber of Commerce, the Human Rights Commission for the City of Fairmont, the United Way of Marion County and in many other organizations and capacities. She is currently a partner in Stanton law Firm in Fairmont.
