Aug 07, 2009

The Gaston Caperton Center, operated by Fairmont State University, is hosting a Back to School Bash from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24.

The event will feature free food, entertainment and door prizes. Any students taking classes at the Caperton Center, as well as faculty and staff are invited to attend. Those who would like to attend should RSVP to Bev Johnston by calling (304) 367-4027 or e-mailing her at bjohnston@fairmontstate.edu by Aug. 12.

"We are excited about the upcoming year and want all of our students to feel welcome and comfortable. This is a great chance to make new friends and get reacquainted with old friends after the summer break," said Dr. Nancy McClure, Director of the Caperton Center.

The Gaston Caperton Center is a regional campus facility located at 501 West Main St. in downtown Clarksburg, across from the Harrison County Senior Center. The Caperton Center serves as a site for delivery of courses for students enrolled in FSU and Pierpont Community & Technical College. The center serves approximately 1,100 students each.

Course offerings allow students to complete the general studies requirements for all Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees, and students may complete a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in General Business. Students may also complete Associate degrees in General Business, Accounting, General Studies, and Physical Therapy Assistant. Additionally, a wide variety of course offerings allow students to make progress toward degree completion in several academic areas. The Center also hosts Weekend College and dual enrollment courses.

The center is a 36,000 square foot facility that consists of 15 classrooms, including three computer labs, two science labs, a physical therapy assistant lab, general meeting rooms and a full-service library. Over 100 computers are available for instructional or general use by students. In addition to courtesy internet ports, wireless internet access is available throughout the building. Common areas include two student lounge areas, one faculty lounge, a portico seating area and an adjacent walled courtyard area with bench and wall seating.
