Alumnus a Finalist for Service to America Medal

A Fairmont State graduate has been named as one of 30 finalists for a Service to America Medal by the Partnership for Public Service, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization based in Washington, D.C.

John McDougal graduated in 1971 from Fairmont State College with a B.A. in history and earned a J.D. from Marshall Wythe Law School, College of William and Mary. He currently works as a special trial attorney for the Internal Revenue Service in Richmond, Va. McDougal's profile was recently featured in the Washington Post's Federal Player series. The profile highlights his work to foil offshore tax schemes where people attempt to cheat on their taxes by hiding billions in offshore bank accounts. McDougal received the IRS Chief Counsel's Award in 2005, the Secretary of the Treasury Award in 2003 and the Department of Justice Tax Division Award in 2004.

The Service to America Medals program pays tribute to America's dedicated workforce, highlighting those who have made significant contributions to the U.S. Honorees are chosen based on their commitment and innovation, as well as the impact of their work on addressing the needs of the nation.
