McClure Named Director of the Caperton Center

Fairmont State University has announced that Dr. Nancy McClure, the Founding Director of the Fairmont State Foundation Center for Teaching Excellence, has been named Director of the Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg, effective July 1.

As Director, McClure succeeds Dr. Timothy R. Oxley, who joined the FSU School of Business as an Associate Professor of Business and MBA Program Director in August 2008.

A native of Bridgeport, McClure holds bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees from West Virginia University. Certified to teach grades K-12, she has taught reading, science and computer classes. Since obtaining her doctorate in 1989, she has been a faculty member at WVU, Glenville and FSU, where she holds the rank of tenured full professor. Prior to accepting the position of Founding Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence, McClure was a faculty member in the School of Education teaching instructional technology. McClure has provided professional development activities for full-time and part-time faculty for Fairmont State and Pierpont Community & Technical College since 2002. McClure resides in Clarksburg with her husband, Jeff, a geologist for the federal government. Their daughter, Allison, practices law in Clarksburg.

Oxley holds an Ed.D. and Ed.S. in Leadership Studies, an M.S. in Management from Marshall University and a B.S. degree from Concord University. Oxley brought 16 years of higher education administrative experience to the School of Business, serving in various leadership and outreach roles, the most recent as Assistant Vice President for Academic Services, with primary responsibilities as Director of the Gaston Caperton Center in Clarksburg.  Prior to his career shift to higher education, Oxley spent 16 years in community and economic development with five of those years as the Executive Director of Region 4 Planning and Development Council.  In addition to Oxley's professional experience, he has served as an adjunct faculty member for Glenville State College, Concord University, Pierpont Community & Technical College and FSU, including as a member of the graduate faculty. 

The Gaston Caperton Center, operated by Fairmont State, is a regional campus facility located at 501 West Main St. in downtown Clarksburg. The center serves as a site for delivery of courses for students enrolled in FSU and Pierpont. The center serves approximately 1,100 students each week with a current full-time equivalency of 650 students. 

Courses offerings allow students to complete the general studies requirements for all Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degrees, and students may complete a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in General Business. Students may also complete Associate degrees in General Business, Accounting, General Studies, and Physical Therapy Assistant. Additionally, a wide variety of course offerings allow students to make progress toward degree completion in several academic areas. The Center also hosts Weekend College and dual enrollment courses. 

The center is a 36,000 square foot facility that consists of 15 classrooms, including three computer labs, two science labs, a physical therapy assistant lab, general meeting rooms and a full-service library. Over 100 computers are available for instructional or general use by students. In addition to courtesy internet ports, wireless internet access is available throughout the building. Common areas include two student lounge areas, one faculty lounge, a portico seating area and an adjacent walled courtyard area with bench and wall seating.
