Two Students Awarded Textbook Scholarships
The Fairmont State Bookstore Advisory Board has announced its Faculty Textbook Scholarship winners for the fall 2008 semester.
Sister Roseline Chirikadzi, a sophomore Fairmont State University nursing student from Zimbabwe, was awarded $1,000. Felicia Marie Gaines, a freshman Pierpont Community & Technical College office technology student from Clarksburg, was awarded $200.
The scholarship is funded by revenue received when FSU and Pierpont faculty members donate retired textbooks or desk-copies no longer in use. The money is collected and appropriated to students on a need-basis through faculty recommendation.
Dr. Robert Baker, English professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Language and Literature, nominated Chirikadzi.
"Sister Roseline is one of our diligent and dedicated students; she will benefit tremendously from this fine scholarship," Baker said.Â
Assistant Professor of Speech Communication, Aimee Richards, nominated Gaines.
"I am happy to help a deserving, hardworking student make higher education a reality," Richards said.
The Bookstore Advisory Board collected $3,200 this fall from faculty donations and is currently evaluating other scholarship nominations to be announced this spring.
