Oksoberfest' Planned for Oct. 6-9

The Science After School enrichment program offered for kindergarten through sixth-grade students begins Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Fairmont State University.

The program, taught by elementary preservice teachers, is under the direction of Dr. Deb Hemler, Geoscience Education Coordinator; Angela McKeen, Assistant Professor of Geoscience Education; and Jo Ellen Snider, adjunct professor. It is designed to engage students in active science. 

The Tuesday early evening section runs from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Oct. 7, 14, 21 and 28. The theme for this program is "Dinosaur CSI" which will explore "who dunnits" using information about dinosaurs.

The Wednesday evening section runs from 6-7 p.m. Oct. 8, 15, 22 and 29. The theme for this program is "Exploring the Unknown," which will investigate mysterious objects in the solar system such as asteroids, comets and meteoroids. 
 
All primary classes (K-2) will be taught in Room 302 and the intermediate classes (3-6) will be taught in Room 106 of Hunt Haught Hall on the FSU and Pierpont Community & Technical College main campus. The cost is $25 for each section, and students may enroll in both sections. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis. An application form from a parent or guardian is required.
