America Reads Offers Reading Enrichment

Sep 29, 2008

The Fairmont State University/America Reads is offering a reading enrichment program for elementary school students. Sessions will begin on Tuesday, Oct. 7, and continue each Tuesday through Nov. 18 from 4 to 5 p.m. at Faith United Methodist Church on the corner of Fairmont Avenue and Fourth Street in Fairmont.

Fairmont State students supervised by Donna Yergovich Nuzum, director, and Mark Fisher, graduate assistant, have just completed an intense workshop/training period, working diligently to make this a totally successful reading experience for students in kindergarten through fourth grade.

During the sessions, the elementary students will hear stories, play reading skills games and complete writing/art projects. This program is presented to enhance a child's love of reading.  Although it is not a tutoring session, emphasis is placed on good reading practices. A major goal of America Reads is to assist children in developing self-esteem and embracing diversity.
