Harvey Named Dean of School of Business
Fairmont State University has named Dr. Richard Harvey as Dean of the School of Business,
effective July 1.
"Fairmont State University is fortunate to have Rick Harvey as Dean of the School
of Business," said Dr. Maria Rose, FSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
"Rick has worked in the School of Business for several years, so he knows the Fairmont
State programs very well. He is well acquainted with local business and industry,
and Fairmont State University looks forward to building stronger relationships with
those businesses."
Harvey previously served as Interim Dean of the School of Business, which includes
undergraduate programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Information Systems
and a Master of Business Administration program.
"I am honored to have been selected as the fifth Dean of the School of Business.
This opportunity to lead the organization where I have spent my entire teaching career
is both challenging and exciting," Harvey said.
"I look forward to working with the outstanding faculty, staff and students in the
School of Business to continue to provide rigorous and relevant programs that are
intellectually grounded, innovative, integrative, technologically advanced and global
in perspective; prepare students for successful leadership roles; collaborate with
stakeholders to align our mission with the needs of the community; and serve as a
primary source for creating and applying business knowledge to promote regional economic
development."
A West Virginia native, Harvey joined the Fairmont State faculty in 1988. He received
his bachelor's degree and MBA in Finance from West Virginia University. He also holds
a law degree from West Virginia University.
At FSU, Harvey teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in business law, managerial
finance and financial reporting and analysis. He has served in the following academic
assignments: program director, adjunct faculty, instructor, assistant professor, associate
professor, professor, program coordinator, student advocate, senior member of the
Liberal Studies committee, faculty senator and vice president of the Faculty Senate,
departmental webmaster, WebCT grant recipient and WebCT mentor, North Central Accreditation
self-study committee member, intern in Academic Affairs, dean of Graduate Studies,
and interim dean of the School of Business.
Residing in Morgantown, he is married to Beth Ann Harvey and they are the parents
of two children, Cearah and Isaiah.
