Spaghetti Lunch Benefits Mission Trip
An upcoming event will support Fairmont State University and West Liberty State College
students who are planning a mission trip to New York City over spring break in March.
On Wednesday, Feb. 27, the Wesley Foundation House at Fairmont State will offer a
spaghetti lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the house at 1224 Locust Ave., Fairmont.
Eat-in and take-out orders will be taken by calling (304) 363-8210. There is no set
price for the meals, but donations will be accepted to help defray trip costs for
students.
During the week of March 10, 12 students, three adults and two campus pastors will
travel to New York for a cultural immersion and mission experience.
The trip is designed to offer students opportunities to reach out in service through
a variety of community service learning contexts. Students will be working within
the men's homeless shelter of a Presbyterian Church (USA). Students will also prepare
bags of groceries for distribution at a local food pantry and distribution warehouse.
Those participating in the trip will attend a United Methodist seminar program on
the epidemic of poverty and hunger coordinated by the General Board of Global Ministries
of The United Methodist Church. On Saturday, March 15, the group will gather for evening
prayer at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin (Episcopal USA). On Sunday, March 16,
the group will worship at Riverside Church and will gather for a service of evening
prayer in the style of jazz at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manhattan.
Students participating in the trip are paying $300 for their transportation and lodging.
The Wesley House is supporting some of the administrative costs and the cost of breakfast
for the participants. Donations will be accepted to help defray the cost of evening
meals for the students and a portion of their transportation costs. Adults participating
in the trip will pay for their own expenses.
For more information or to make a donation, call the Rev. Michael Waide at (304)
