Shakespeare Bus Trip to D.C. Offered
The Fairmont State University Honors Program offers a two-day bus trip to Washington,
D.C., featuring a performance of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" at the Folger Theatre. Tickets
remain and are available to the public.
The bus will leave Fairmont State at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28. Upon arriving
in the nation's capital, travelers will spend the afternoon in the museums of the
Smithsonian followed by an evening performance by the National Symphony Orchestra
at the Kennedy Center. The program features Stravinsky's "Danses concertantes," for
chamber orchestra. Mark Elder conducts the NSO.
The Saturday itinerary includes time in Folger's Great Hall where travelers can view
artifacts related to Shakespeare's time and a multimedia installation of great actors
portraying characters from Shakespeare's plays. A matinee of "Macbeth" with magic
conceived by "Teller" of Penn and Teller follows the morning activities. In the play
Macbeth journeys into the heart of darkness in a quest for the throne incited by the
witches' prophecy and his ambitious wife. Menace and magic surround Shakespeare's
chilling Scottish tragedy.
The cost for the trip is $215 per traveler. This includes tickets, transportation
