Feb 11, 2008

The Fairmont State University Honors Program offers a two-day bus trip to Washington, D.C., featuring a performance of Shakespeare's "Macbeth" at the Folger Theatre. Tickets remain and are available to the public.

The bus will leave Fairmont State at 7:30 a.m. on Friday, March 28. Upon arriving in the nation's capital, travelers will spend the afternoon in the museums of the Smithsonian followed by an evening performance by the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center. The program features Stravinsky's "Danses concertantes," for chamber orchestra. Mark Elder conducts the NSO.

The Saturday itinerary includes time in Folger's Great Hall where travelers can view artifacts related to Shakespeare's time and a multimedia installation of great actors portraying characters from Shakespeare's plays. A matinee of "Macbeth" with magic conceived by "Teller" of Penn and Teller follows the morning activities. In the play Macbeth journeys into the heart of darkness in a quest for the throne incited by the witches' prophecy and his ambitious wife. Menace and magic surround Shakespeare's chilling Scottish tragedy.

The cost for the trip is $215 per traveler. This includes tickets, transportation and lodging (double occupancy). For more information or to sign up for the trip, contact Dr. Francene Kirk at (304) 367-4170 or fkirk@fairmontstate.edu
