Student a Finalist in Business Competition
Fairmont State University senior Daniel Desmond, a finance major from Clarksburg,
teamed with West Virginia University student Anastasia Heasley, to become one of five
finalists competing for $10,000 in the Lifestyles division of the Statewide Business
Competition, which will take place at West Virginia University in April.
Desmond and Heasley wrote a business plan for Wholesomes, a fast food restaurant
that offers healthy alternatives to typical fast food. WVU sponsors the competition,
which was initially open only to WVU students and is now open statewide. Sixty-six
business plans summaries were entered in the competition submitted by numerous colleges
and universities around the state in two categories: lifestyle and innovation.
The five finalists are now going through extensive training, receiving technical
assistance from experienced advisors and completing a comprehensive business plan
in preparation for the final competition. One winner will be chosen from each category.
The $10,000 the winners receive will be used to help them start their business.
