Parenting Expert Presents 3 Seminars
Parenting expert John Rosemond will present three free seminars in Fairmont on Sunday
and Monday, Oct. 28 and 29, sponsored by the Watson Lecture Series, Fairmont State
University, Fairmont State GEAR UP and the state Department of Health and Human Resources.
"Having an expert present to parents and teachers will hopefully give them new tools
to work with children. One objective of the presentations is to modify discipline
styles in order to change the behavior of children in a positive way 'having a more
productive interaction for all,' said Pam Nolan, member of the Parenting Task Force.
The best-selling author, columnist, speaker and family psychologist will give three
lectures:
* Three Keys to Effective Discipline, "Commanding Communication, Compelling Consequences,
and Confirming Consistency," from 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at First Presbyterian
Church, Jackson and Jefferson streets, Fairmont. Free child care will be provided

* Working with Parents of Problem Students, "Motivating the Underachiever," from
4-5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Fairmont State University in the Falcon Center Third
Floor Conference Rooms. This lecture is limited to 40 participants, and reservations

* Bringing Out the Best in Your Child, "Fail-safe Prescription to Bringing Out the
Best in Children," from 7-8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at Fairmont State University
in the Falcon Center Third Floor Conference Rooms. CEU's are available upon request.

John Rosemond has worked with families, children and parents since 1971 in the field
of family psychology. In 1971, he earned his master's degree in psychology from Western
Illinois University and was elected to the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society. In
1999, his alma mater conferred upon him the Distinguished Alumni Award. From 1971-1979,
he worked as a psychologist in Illinois and North Carolina and directed several mental-health
programs for children. From 1980-1990, Rosemond was in full-time practice as a family
psychologist with Piedmont Psychological Associates in Gastonia. Presently, his time
is devoted to speaking and writing. His column is syndicated in approximately 225
newspapers nationwide. He has written 12 best-selling parenting books, nine of which
are published in 16 different countries. He is also one of America's busiest and most
popular speakers.
