GEAR UP Quiz Bowl Set for Oct. 20
The fourth annual Fairmont State GEAR UP Quiz Bowl will be held on Saturday, Oct.
20. The event annually brings eighth- and ninth-grade teams from GEAR UP schools throughout
the state to compete for the coveted title of Quiz Bowl Champions.
The schools participating this year include Barrackville, Calhoun Middle, Lumberport
Middle, Mannington Middle, Robert Bland Middle, Central Preston and West Preston.
The Quiz Bowl is also sponsored by the FSU Honors Program and Kappa Delta Pi.
"The Quiz Bowl is a great opportunity for students throughout our state to come and
showcase their intellect and hard work they have invested in preparing for this academic
competition," said student coordinator Jason Vanfosson.
Teams participating in the competition will face four rounds of questioning in the
fields of math and science, English and literature, social sciences and pop culture.
Each participant will receive a T-shirt and prize, and the winners will receive a
plaque to commemorate their victory.
The Quiz Bowl still needs student volunteers. Those interested in volunteering should
