Student's Work Included in Writing Textbook
A paper by Fairmont State University Regents Bachelor of Arts student Jeannine Romano
has been selected by the editors of the writing textbook, "Frames of Mind," to appear
in its upcoming second edition.
The textbook includes examples of outstanding student writing in each rhetorical
mode as well as works by famous authors. Debra Benedetti, Associate Professor of Academic
Studies/English for Pierpont Community & Technical College of FSU, submitted Romano's
work as an exemplary descriptive essay. The essay is scheduled to appear in the upcoming
second edition of the text in January 2008.
"Jeannine Romano's descriptive essay, 'A Search for True Tranquility,' showcases
a refined convergence of sensory images into a text that beckons the reader to savor
the rich textures and nuances of a fading fall evening," Benedetti said.
"Descriptive writing is a sensual endeavor, a culling of disparate sensory details
that ultimately convey a singular, dominant impression. Jeannine's essay captures
this act; her prose reveals a remarkable control and manipulation of details and images
that both transfix and transport the reader to her evocative world. It is the rare
English 1104 student who can master such technique so early in the semester. She is
most deserving of this national recognition."
Romano, a graduate of Liberty High School, is also the recipient of the 2006 English
1104 Excellence in Writing Award. She and her husband Roland and their family live
at Lost Creek.
