America Counts Offers Math Tutoring
In conjunction with GEAR UP, the America Counts free math tutoring program supervised
by Pam Kabulski and coordinated by Donna Yergovich Nuzum, is planning for its fall
session to be held at Fairmont State University. The program is offered to students
in fifth through ninth grades who are experiencing math difficulties.
The one hour/once a week sessions, which run for eight weeks, are offered Tuesdays
at 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. OR Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. The program starts Sept.
25/26 and runs through the week of Nov. 13/14. The program is structured to emphasize
math homework difficulties and/or specific math difficulties.
Fairmont State tutors, proficient in math, aid children in developing their math
skills. Kabulski, a Marion County math teacher and the on-site supervisor, will be
present to assist each tutor and student. "The students benefit greatly from the small
group instruction and support they receive from their tutors," she said.
Pre-registration is necessary for students to attend the program. To register a student,
call (304) 367-4579 (and leave information on the voice mail) or e-mail nwoodson@fairmontstate.edu. Those registering are asked to submit the following information: student's name
(please spell if calling); student's grade; day and time desired for tutoring; parent/guardian
name (please spell if calling); and phone number.
Students are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. There are limited slots
available.
