Students Reconnect With Alumni

Fairmont State University students will contact alumni and friends during the Bi-annual Student Calling Campaign on April 15-30. Students will solicit funds for the Fairmont State Fund for Excellence. Gifts to the Fund for Excellence support need-based, merit, academic and athletic scholarships at Fairmont State University, including Pierpont Community & Technical College.

The Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. employs over 15 students for several weeks and allows them to gain valuable work experience, create friendships with fellow students and connect with alumni.

Each gift to the Fund for Excellence ensures that Fairmont State maintains scholarship support available to students. Currently, Fairmont State provides 86 percent of its students with some form of financial aid. A total of 100 percent of all gifts made to the Fairmont State Fund for Excellence benefit student scholarships.

"We hope to raise 1,000 total alumni gifts this year. If we receive 500 gifts during the spring calling session, we will meet our goal and break the record for annual alumni gifts. It's a challenge for us every year; it's also great hearing from past alumni and speaking to them. Every gift, in any amount, goes directly to support student scholarships," said Mickey Patel, Pre-Pharmacy and Biology double major and a student caller for three years.

"The alumni community has consistently shown its support and commitment to the Bi-annual Student Calling Campaign. The fall campaign raised a record breaking $56,000 and reconnected students with over 6,000 alumni and friends," said Kathie Anderson, FSU Director of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

"As Fairmont State continues to grow, we want alumni and friends to know that they are an integral part of the success that comes with growth. Alumni investment, on an annual basis, ensures that we attract high quality students and helps leverage larger corporate and foundation gifts."
