Dancing Falcons Compete in Event
The Fairmont State University ballroom dancing team, the Dancing Falcons, competed
at the Annual USA Dance Pittsburgh Amateur Dancesport Championship held at Chatham
College on April 13-15.
The FSU team consisted of five returning and six newcomer students. The returning
students are Jacqueline Albright, Willa Brown, Andrea Burnett, Sarah Grumblatt and
team captain Mariko Tsuruta; while the newcomers are Mariah Bellotte, Raymond Bezjak,
Darren Freme, Sierra Grad, Kate Pawich and Paul Robrecht.
USA Dance competitions are open to amateur dancers of all ages. The adult category
attracted mainly students of private dance studios but also college teams from Penn
State, Case Western and Carnegie Mellon. The senior category attracted dancers mainly
from East Coast states.
The FSU team competed in the following event categories: American Rhythm (cha cha,
rumba, swing); American Smooth (waltz, tango, foxtrot); International Standard, (waltz,
tango, and foxtrot); and International Latin, (cha cha, rumba, and samba).
The partners, Albright-Burnett and Tsuruta-Grumblatt, attained the semifinal round
in their respective events.
