Herod Wins Regional CASE Award

Rebecca Tompkins Herod, Director of Development Marketing, Communications and Grants at Fairmont State University is the recipient of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE), District II Rising Star Award.

The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) advances and supports educational institutions around the world by enhancing the effectiveness of the alumni relations, communications, marketing, fund raising and other advancement professionals who serve them. As the premier professional association for educational advancement professionals, CASE is committed to being the primary resource for professional development and information and the leading advocate for professional standards and ethics.

The Rising Star Award recognizes a young professional who demonstrates the potential for leadership in advancement programs, enthusiasm for and commitment to the advancement profession and understanding of the needs and goals of the philanthropic tradition.

"I feel fortunate to work at an institution with leadership committed to the important role of philanthropy as a vehicle to advance higher education in the state," Herod said.

"I am a native West Virginian and a product of its excellent system of primary, secondary and higher education. It is an honor to be recognized, and to give credit to my parents, mentors, teachers and colleagues for giving me the tools to succeed in my chosen career."

Herod received a Bachelor of Arts in English from West Virginia University and has been employed by the Fairmont State University Office for Institutional Advancement since 2002. She has oversight of annual fund activities, advancement office publications and corporate and foundation grantsmanship programs. She resides in Morgantown with her husband John.

Her nomination was considered along with the nominations of other CASE District II professionals at institutions in Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, West Virginia; Ontario, Canada; Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. CASE will present the Rising Star Award on Feb. 12, 2007, at the annual District I and II conference in New York, N.Y.
