Patterson Resigns as Provost, Will Join Faculty
Dr. Anne Patterson has resigned her position as Provost and Vice President for Academic
Affairs at Fairmont State University, effective June 30, 2007. She will join the faculty
of the School of Fine Arts, where she is tenured as a Professor of Music.
"Anne came to Fairmont State in June 2004, bringing extensive experience in academic
administration and a broad background in teaching with her," says Dr. Daniel J. Bradley,
President of Fairmont State University. "Her wide-ranging experience as a teacher
at every level from pre-school to graduate studies gave her credibility with the faculty
and enabled her to speak with the authority of an expert practitioner when dealing
with academic issues. She has a well-deserved reputation for being fair and even-handed
and for being genuinely interested in all the disciplines within her responsibility."
"Her many contributions to the life of the University have been significant," added
Bradley. "She has been a tireless advocate for improved student performance and for
meaningful faculty development. The development of the Strategic Plan, the revision
of the liberal studies program, the updating of the faculty evaluation system, our
participation in the Greater Expectations Institute, the close collaboration between
the faculty and the Fairmont State Foundation in fund raising have all benefited enormously
from Anne's vision and energy."
"My service as Provost at Fairmont State has occurred during a period of enormous
change at the University," says Patterson. "We have accomplished a great deal in Academic
Affairs during my tenure because of excellent teamwork on the part of deans and chairs,
the commitment of the faculty, and the extraordinary abilities of the Academic Affairs
staff members Judy Biafore, Dr. Christina Lavorata, and Valerie Woofter. Serving with
these talented people has been a pleasure."
"Working with my colleagues on the President's Cabinet has afforded me a wonderful
opportunity to learn and grow. I wish all of my administrative colleagues the very
best."
"Dr. Patterson has remained active in her field (music) throughout this period as
Provost," says Bradley. "She has told me she looks forward to becoming immersed in
the teaching and learning process again. On behalf of Fairmont State, I wish Anne
the best as she returns to the primary mission of this University, which is teaching."
