Ensembles, Stage Band Plan Concerts
The Fairmont State University Wind Ensemble and Stage Band, under the direction of
Dr. Valarie Huffman, and the Percussion and African Ensembles, under the direction
of Matt Schoonmaker, are planning concerts for the fall semester.
The Stage Band will perform on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 8 p.m. in the Turley Center Ballroom
and will feature special vocalists. The ensemble will perform a wide variety of jazz
tunes from the World War II era to the present day. Selections will include standards
such as “Sentimental Journey” and “Sing, Sing, Sing” to more current tunes like “September”
and “Car Wash.” Dancing during the performance is encouraged, and admission is free
and open to the public.
The Wind Ensemble and the Percussion and African Ensembles will perform a joint holiday
concert on Thursday, Dec. 7, at 8 p.m. in the Wallman Hall Auditorium. The Wind Ensemble
will perform holiday favorites such as “Sleigh Ride” and Mannheim Steamroller’s version
of the popular Christmas carol “Hark, the Herald Angels Sing,” among others. The Percussion
and African Ensembles will perform both traditional percussion ensemble arrangements
and African pieces. Admission to the concert is free and open to the public.
