Kids Can Take 'Old Time Radio Show' Class

Oct 09, 2006

Does your child love to imagine? Does he or she "act" in front of the mirror? Does he or she play out scenes from his favorite movies? The Fairmont State University School of Fine Arts is offering a free performing arts class for children ages 10 to 14 called, "The Old Time Radio Show: People Places and Good Times."

"The Old Time Radio Show" is a creative drama project that combines writing, drama and folklore. During the course of the class, participants will interview friends and family. Then, through drama and writing activities, they will turn that information into a readers' theatre of a 1940s style radio variety show. The class will culminate with a performance, which is open to the families and friends of the participants.

The class is being offered by the Fairmont State Creative Drama class under the supervision of Dr. Francene Kirk, Associate Professor of Communication and Theatre. Children from ages 10 to 14 are welcome. There are no audition requirements, however, the class will be limited to 20 children who will be chosen on a "first-come, first-served" basis. "The Old Time Radio Show" class will meet from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in Room 311, Wallman Hall on the following dates: Oct. 30; Nov. 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 27, 29; Dec. 4, 6 and 12.

For more information or to sign up for the class, contact Dr. Francene Kirk at (304) 367-4170 or fkirk@fairmontstate.edu
