Fairmont State University has announced that William Finley has been named Director of Institutional Research.

Finley began his job at Fairmont State earlier this month. He previously served as Director of Institutional Research and Assessment at Reading Area Community College in Reading, Pa.

"I am excited at this challenging opportunity to be a part of the Fairmont State environment, and I look forward to working with all the dedicated individuals that make FSU a truly unique institution," Finley said.

In support of FSU's research, planning and institutional effectiveness needs, Finley will collect, analyze and interpret institutional data and provide findings and reports for use in decision-making. He will conduct institutional studies on enrollment trends, retention and degree completion. His responsibilities include developing, implementing and maintaining systems for collecting and generating vital statistics; analyzing and interpreting statistics; and creating reports for planning, policy making and quality assurance.

"Having accurate data is vital in making decisions to move Fairmont State forward and to meet the goals set as part of our institution's Strategic Plan," said Dr. Dan Bradley, FSU President. "William Finley is a great asset to our campus community."

Finley has more than 18 years of university level administration experience. As Director of Institutional Research and Assessment at Reading Area Community College, he supported the college's strategic planning efforts, conducted official data reporting, developed the college-wide institutional assessment plan, co-chaired the Committee for Assessment of Student Learning Outcomes and performed adjunct faculty duties teaching Calculus I. His past employment also includes serving as Research Scientist in the Health Studies Unit/Biostatistician for Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network in Allentown, Pa.; Director of Academic Computing and Network Administration for DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa.; and User Consultant for Lehigh University Computing Center in Bethlehem, Pa. He has taught at DeSales University, Lehigh University and The University of Oklahoma.

Finley's educational background includes courses taken in pursuit of an Ed.D. in Educational Technology at Lehigh University; an M.S. in Mathematics from Lehigh University; graduate coursework at The University of Oklahoma in Norman, Okla.; and a B.S. in Mathematics and Biology at Grove City College in Grove City, Pa. He is a member of the Association of Institutional Research and the Northeast Association of Institutional Research.
