Ex-NFL Athletes to Speak to Students
Fairmont State's Office of Student Affairs is hosting two former NFL athletes as guest
speakers on Wednesday, Nov. 1. Herman Weaver and Lee Rouson will talk to students
about making positive choices as students and as athletes.
Weaver and Rouson, both part of the Sports World Organization, will speak at 7:30
p.m. in Multi-Media Room A of the Ruth Ann Musick Library. Admission is free and open

Weaver played college football at the University of Tennessee and 11 years of professional
football. While at Tennessee, he had a punt of 71 yards. He also had the best hang-time
ever of 5.7 seconds. While playing in the NFL with the Detroit Lions from 1970-76,
Weaver was nick-named "Thunderfoot" by Howard Cosell on Monday Night Football. He
was the NFC Punter of the Year in 1975 and was named "One of the Top 20 Punters of
all Time" by Sporting News. Weaver played with the Seattle Seahawks from 1977-80.
He and his wife Suzy have two children and reside in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Rouson graduated from the University of Colorado, where he played for Coach Bill
McCartney. He was the fourth all-time leading rusher at Colorado from 1980-84. Rouson
was a key factor in turning the Colorado program around to become a national champion.
He was drafted by the New York Giants in 1985 and played under Bill Parcells for five
years; he won two Super Bowl rings while he played for the Giants. His professional
football career was brought to an end as a result of an ankle injury. His final year
in the NFL was as a starting full back and tight end with the Cleveland Browns. He
and his wife Lisa have four children.
