Whetstone Sponsors Poetry Reading
Poet and Essayist Rick Campbell will read from his work at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5,
in the Brooks Memorial Gallery of Fairmont State's Wallman Hall.
Campbell's latest book of poems, "The Traveler's Companion," was published in 2004,
and his first book, "Setting the World in Order," won the Walt McDonald Prize. A native
of Pittsburgh, much of Campbell's work explores the steel and coal cultures of the
region. Campbell lives in Tallahassee, Fla., where he teaches at Florida A&M University
and directs Anhinga Press, which has published fine poetry for more than 30 years,
including the Anhinga Prize, the Levine Prize and the Florida Poetry Series. Campbell's
poems and essays have appeared in The Georgia Review, The Missouri Review, Southern
Poetry Review, Prairie Schooner and other journals. He has received a National Endowment
for the Arts Fellowship, a Pushcart Prize and two fellowships from the Florida Art
Council.
