FSU Hosts First 'Taste of Fairmont'
Fairmont's Poky Dot took the People's Choice award for its cheesecake in the first
annual "Taste of Fairmont" held at Fairmont State University as part of freshman orientation
activities.
More than 15 area restaurants and businesses participated in the event in an effort
to familiarize new students with Fairmont State and with Fairmont. The restaurants
supplied samples of food for about 300 students attending the event. Each student
received a map showing the locations of the restaurants. WesBanco, Huntington Banks
and BB&T were on hand for students interested in opening accounts. Prickett's Fort
State Park, Hope Inc. and Big Brothers/Big Sisters also participated. Participating
restaurants were Country Club Bakery, McAteer's, Colasessano's, Poky Dot, River City
Grill, Westchester Village, Papa John's Domino's, Aladdin Food Management Services,
the Pierpont Community & Technical College of FSU Culinary Arts program and the Fairmont
State Bookstore.
"This activity was so much fun to put in place, and the businesses all went out of
their way to provide exceptional food and services to us. We can't thank them enough,"
said Kat Stevens, Student Services Counselor.
