Family Weekend Set for Sept. 22-23

Sep 21, 2006

Parents will have the opportunity to spend some time with their Fairmont State students during the annual Family Weekend festivities Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23, at Duvall-Rosier Field.

The weekend begins with a cookout, featuring inflatable games, from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22. The fun continues Saturday, Sept. 23, with registration at 10:30 a.m. followed by a chili cookoff from noon-1 p.m. Kat Stevens, Student Services Counselor, said Fairmont State organizations and groups of students will compete in the event with $200 going to the winner of the People's Choice Award. A highlight of the weekend will be the football game at 1 p.m. when the Fighting Falcons take on West Virginia State.

The afternoon will also include a chance for face painting, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; a chance to have your YesterYear's Old Time Family Portrait taken in Old West costumes from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and a chance to ride a mechanical bull from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. During a lasso demonstration at noon, Amber Brumage will offer instruction in how to lasso a Fairmont State President. Both Fairmont State University President Dan Bradley and Pierpont Community & Technical College President Blair Montgomery have agreed to participate in the demonstration. Musical entertainment will also be provided from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

A $20 per person fee covers the cost of all of the meals and activities. Fairmont State students and children under 12 will be admitted for free. Those planning to attend the Family Weekend should contract Sue Conrad at (304) 367-4643.
