Family Weekend Set for Sept. 22-23
Parents will have the opportunity to spend some time with their Fairmont State students
during the annual Family Weekend festivities Friday and Saturday, Sept. 22-23, at
Duvall-Rosier Field.
The weekend begins with a cookout, featuring inflatable games, from 6-9 p.m. Friday,
Sept. 22. The fun continues Saturday, Sept. 23, with registration at 10:30 a.m. followed
by a chili cookoff from noon-1 p.m. Kat Stevens, Student Services Counselor, said
Fairmont State organizations and groups of students will compete in the event with
$200 going to the winner of the People's Choice Award. A highlight of the weekend
will be the football game at 1 p.m. when the Fighting Falcons take on West Virginia
State.
The afternoon will also include a chance for face painting, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.; a
chance to have your YesterYear's Old Time Family Portrait taken in Old West costumes
from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.; and a chance to ride a mechanical bull from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. During
a lasso demonstration at noon, Amber Brumage will offer instruction in how to lasso
a Fairmont State President. Both Fairmont State University President Dan Bradley and
Pierpont Community & Technical College President Blair Montgomery have agreed to participate
in the demonstration. Musical entertainment will also be provided from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
A $20 per person fee covers the cost of all of the meals and activities. Fairmont
State students and children under 12 will be admitted for free. Those planning to
