FSU Presents Mozart Celebration
The School of Fine Arts at Fairmont State University announces an opportunity for
members of the community to be a part of the "culture of involvement."
The Music Department will be celebrating the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth
with a University-Community Chorus and Orchestra concert on Oct. 22. This is a call
for faculty, staff and Fairmont community singers to join with the FSU Collegiate
Singers for the performance.
Contact Jeff Poland to register for the Mozart Celebration University-Community Chorus.
Call the office, (304) 367-4118, or e-mail jpoland@fairmontstate.edu. Those who would like to participate should leave their name, contact information
(address, phone, e-mail) and voice part (soprano, alto, tenor, bass). Registration
deadline is Friday, Sept. 15. Music will be provided free of charge and available
immediately to be checked out.
The group will be performing three works by Mozart which he wrote for his home church,
the Salzburg Cathedral: "Regina Coeli (K.276)," "Te Deum (K. 141)" and the "Solemn
Vespers of the Confessor (K. 339)." All three pieces will be sung in Latin and contain
brilliant, festive music with passages for strings, trumpets and timpani. Also on
the program is the concert aria "Exsultate Jubilate" to be sung by soprano Jane Lightfoot
from Morgantown. Song-learning CDs and web sites with MIDI files will be available
for singers to learn their voice parts. Four rehearsals are scheduled for the University-Community
Chorus on Monday evenings: Sept. 25, October 2, Oct. 9 and Oct. 16. Rehearsal with
orchestra and soloists is Saturday afternoon, Oct. 21, and the concert on Sunday afternoon,
Oct. 22.
